The H. Alexander Smith Papers document his career as a lawyer, executive secretary and lecturer at Princeton University, and United States Senator from New Jersey. The bulk of documentation focuses on his tenure in the Senate and the period immediately after, when he served as a Special Consultant on Foreign Affairs to the Secretary of State. The papers also contain documents created during his work at Princeton University. They contain diaries kept daily, correspondence both personal and professional, speeches given before the Senate and copies of legislation sponsored by Smith, notes, photographs, and memorabilia (including scrapbooks, clippings, awards, certificates, and ephemera).
